The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most revered pilgrimage circuits in Hinduism, located in the majestic Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. It consists of four sacred shrines:
Yamunotri – The source of River Yamuna and the seat of Goddess Yamuna. Pilgrims take a dip in the sacred waters of the Yamuna River to purify their soul and begin their journey.
Gangotri – The origin of the River Ganga, where devotees offer prayers at the Gangotri Temple and seek the blessings of Goddess Ganga.
Kedarnath – One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, nestled amidst snow-clad peaks. The trek to Kedarnath is both physically challenging and spiritually uplifting.
Badrinath – Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is the last stop in the Char Dham circuit. Situated on the banks of the Alaknanda River, the Badrinath Temple is known for its breathtaking surroundings and divine aura.
The temples open every year in April–May (on Akshaya Tritiya) and close around October–November (before Diwali) due to harsh winter weather in the region. The exact dates change every year and are decided by priests based on the Hindu calendar.
